In January 2008 James was appointed as the interim manager for a multi million pound UK Government programme. James was responsible for setting up the programme and completing the definition phases in accordance with MSP (UK public sector standard for programmes of transformational change). The dossier of projects includes, process improvement, competence development, procurement and new Information Systems.
James successfully headed a ‘root and branch’ review of Sussex Police which led to the development of a more local, consistent and resilient force. He also led a multi million pound programme which overhauled call taking in Sussex Police, thereby improving efficiency and effectiveness. This included centralising call taking, setting up the single non emergency number, creating a ‘one stop shop’ call centre and introducing ‘e’ contact.
Line Management:
James was a dynamic and highly successful divisional commander. An independent inspection by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary identified strong leadership and cited 10 areas of national good practice (a record at that time). Please see the Inspection Report at the foot of this page (pdf).
He went on to perform the role of Head of Operations for Sussex Police, with responsibility for 300 staff and a budget of £11 million.
